Sometimes we take things in life for granted, like our health, the celebration of the Eucharist, our freedom to move about as we please, and so much more. During this pandemic we are being asked to give up some of these freedoms for the health and safety of others. In addition, we are conflicted with fear and worry: worry about loss of jobs; worry about our financial situations; worry about our parents and neighbors, our children and friends. If there were ever a time for prayer, this is it. The pandemic will be with us for some time, and we don't know when we will be able to share in the Eucharist again. Calling upon God in pray will help us through this difficult time and will remind us that God's grace and mercy is stronger than the COVID-19 virus.
Perhaps we can look at this time as a gift from God. This may be a time to slow us down, to enable us to be present to our spouses and children, our parents and family members. This is a time when we can read Scripture, to learn to rely on God rather than on ourselves, and to learn to pray together with our families. So, in the midst of our fear, let us rely on our faith and trust in God.
